Have you ever wondered what it really means to be gay? Well, in this written piece am going to demystify the mystery that surrounds the lives of gay men. However, its important to note that attitudes towards gay men have changed dramatically over the past few decades. Initially, the main stream society chose to disregard the existence of the gay culture. As the wave of modernity swept in during the sixties and people choose a more liberal life style, gay culture started to be more accepted. This was initialized by the Stonewall riots and demonstrations of 1969.
Gay men tend to live normal lives whether dating or single. They express love and emotions to each other in order to develop a deep sense of connection. Gay men today can hang out together and share interesting experiences. In fact, in more progressive societies there even clubs, bars and rave joints for gay men to co exist.
They maintain a close knit circle among themselves, but this does not mean they don’t associate with the rest of the society. This closeness creates a sense of security, love and intimacy. However, the quality of life they live is heavily dependent on the part of the world they live in as some parts of the world may not be as progressive as Europe or the United States. Parts of Africa, Asia and The Middle East do not approve the gay culture.
Today, gay men can enjoy freedom. They serve in governments, in the army and other sectors that influence decision making they have become productive members of the society regardless of their unique sexual preference.
At the end of the day, everyone has a right to good life and so do gay men. Therefore, It would be beneficial if homophobic societies can understand that gay men have rights too.
